The Jewish Alliance Against Family Violence Inc (JAAFV) was formed in May 2008 by a group of professional women (from law, psychology, social policy, social work and allied health) in order to address family and domestic violence in New South Wales, with particular focus upon the Jewish community. It evolved from Jewish Care's 2008 Federal government funded project ‘Opening Closed Doors’ – the aims of which were to raise awareness about domestic violence in the Jewish community, and to begin to develop organisational structures to sustain continual education once the funding for the project came to an end.
JAAFV is an independent entity that specialises in educating and addressing issues associated with family violence, and is available to work with a wide range of agencies within and outside of the Jewish community.
JAAFV hopes to initiate community education projects dealing with the causes and prevention of family violence. It also plans to help expand existing services that are already providing responses to the problem of family violence.
The viability of JAAFV continuing to present community events and building relationships with other organisations such as JewishCare, Jewish House, National Council of Jewish Women Australia (NCJWA) is wholly dependent on donations and sponsorship. Please see the link at left Donations/Sponsorship to find out how you can assist us in carrying out this important work.
